Starting A New Gym? Why You Need Second Hand Equipment

SEcond hand gym equipment

There’s a lot to consider when you’re setting up a new gym. You need to find the right premises, think about staffing and, most importantly, work out how to finance it all.  The range of equipment that’s available to your customers is often a key element in the success or failure of your new gym.  Get it right and you’ll keep people coming back for more. If you get it wrong you could find yourself closing when you’ve barely got going.  We think that when you’re starting a new gym, you need second-hand gym equipment.  Here are just a few of the reasons why.

Provide a wide range of equipment

Setting up a new gym is costly.  You could be looking at a five-figure sum to do it properly.  As a new business, it’s important to make a great first impression.  If you’ve saved money by limiting the range of equipment that you have available, you’re unlikely to achieve that.

We refurbish equipment that’s only one or two years old so that you get great quality equipment for a fraction of the cost of new.  That means that you can afford to buy more. When new customers walk in they’ll be impressed by the choice that’s available to them and they’ll be more likely to return.

Get to know your customers

When you first set up you’ll already have a good idea of what’s available in the area.  You might be serving a gap in the market or maybe you’re the only gym in the area.  Until people start coming to you and using the equipment you won’t know exactly what’s needed.  Buying second-hand means that you can offer a wider range then see what people are using.

You might also find that new customers come along with particular health needs that would benefit from different types of equipment.  You might be able to afford to add something new by buying second hand when the cost of brand new equipment is out of reach.

Try things out

When you’re still exploring a new market, it can be risky trying something new.  Your customers will probably expect the usual range of exercise bikes and treadmills, but what about vibration plates? Buying something brand new that’s slightly out of the ordinary could end up being a costly mistake if it sits gathering dust.

That’s why we decided to offer a hire service. When it comes to brand new equipment, most suppliers won’t offer sale or return. We refurbish all of our equipment and carry out safety checks so we’re quite happy to let you try something new and see if it’s a good fit for your new gym.  You could even promote it to your customers by telling them you’ve only got it for a limited time, or even entering them into a prize draw in return for feedback.  Then you can make an informed decision on whether to buy or not.

Keep maintenance simple

You opened a gym because you’re a fitness expert. We’ve no doubt that you know a good personal trainer when you see one, but what about maintenance?  When you buy brand new commercial gym equipment you immediately take on responsibility for maintenance. Ensuring that your customers are safe using your gym is one of the most important considerations in running your business.

Whilst we can’t cover every aspect of health and safety we can help you to ensure that the equipment is safe. We offer maintenance packages so that you can be confident that everything is in good working order.
